Cognitive behavioral therapy is considered the gold standard psychosocial treatment for most pediatric psychiatric conditions. However, recent research in the United States indicates that fewer than optimal numbers of young patients receive proper implementation of CBT due to incorrect application to relevant treatment targets, incorrect therapeutic techniques, and inflexible delivery. Inadequate case conceptualization is a usual suspect that compromises clinical applications. Accordingly, the workshop begins with a rubric for case conceptualization. Subsequently, participants will learn traditional CBT procedures (e.g. psychoeducation, target monitoring, basic behavioral tasks, cognitive restructuring/rational analysis, and exposures). Finally, innovative modifications of these conventional methods with be illustrated.
