Objectives

Participants will be able to

  • Identify and implement best practices for screening and assessing for suicide risk
  • Demonstrate skills for intervening during suicide crises and managing suicide risk in clinical populations
  • Describe evidence-based therapies and strategies for reducing ongoing suicide risk and preventing suicide deaths
  • Practice developing a suicide prevention safety plan based on a case example.

 

PRESENTER: JOSEPHINE RIDLEY, PHD

Dr. Josephine Ridley is a licensed clinical psychologist and Owner of Ridley Behavioral Health, LLC (RBH). She has a Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology from West Virginia University. Dr. Ridley is considered a subject matter expert in suicide and diversity. She is published in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of suicide, depression, and anxiety, has co-authored book chapters on suicide and mood disorders, and is active in research on depression and suicide. Dr. Ridley is a consultant for the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation (OSPF), immediate past leader of their Black Youth and Young Adult Suicide Prevention (BYYASP) Initiative. She is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Co-Editor of the international British Journal of Guidance and Counselling, Lead Trainer of Trainers for Zero Suicide Institute’s Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk Workshop, and is a certified Psychological Autopsy Investigator by the American Association of Suicidology. She serves as Co-Chair for an Institutional Review Board (IRB), program director for a clinical psychology postdoctoral residency program, and conducts Public Safety Psychological Evaluations. She has trained psychology residents, interns and practicum students for more than 25 years and has worked serving Veterans for the last 32 years, holding a variety of leadership positions along the way. She is a highly sought-after national and international speaker who has conducted workshops, seminars, and trainings for a variety of organizations and conferences on topics related to suicide prevention, assessment, and management of suicide risk, depression, grief, burnout/compassion fatigue, anger management, PTSD, transgenerational and historical trauma, and diversity.
